CellCept® (mycophenolate mofetil) is an immunosuppressant designed to prevent organ rejection in people with kidney, heart, or liver transplants. It works by reducing immune activity that attacks transplanted organs. By targeted suppression of the immune system, Cellcept can help protect the transplanted organ from rejection.
CellCept is administered orally as tablets, capsules, or liquid, and is also available for intravenous infusion in adults. Dosing varies by type of transplant; use in combination with ciclosporin and corticosteroids per USPI. For some patients, financial assistance may be available.
Common side effects of Cellcept include diarrhea, low white and red blood cell counts, infections, and blood pressure problems. Some individuals may also experience swelling of the lower legs, ankles, and feet. Cellcept can cause serious side effects, including risk of miscarriage, birth defects, and severe allergic reactions. Regular blood tests are required to monitor blood cell counts. Immediate medical attention is necessary if you experience trouble breathing, fainting, or swelling of the face or throat. Do not take CELLCEPT if you have a history of allergic reactions to mycophenolate mofetil or any of the ingredients in CELLCEPT.
